인돌-3-카비놀 (I-3-C) 는 양배추, 브로커리, 케일 등에서 발견되는 파이토케미칼 로 항암성분 으로 밝혀졌으며
강력한 항산화 작용으로 소위 자유기 ( Free Radical) 에 의한 세포들의 손상을 방지하고,

아울러 건강하고 정상적인 호르몬의 균형을 잡아주어

특히 유방 이나 전립선, 또는 생식기관 의 건강을 유지하여 줍니다.

.이 항암 성분인 인돌-3-카비놀  [ indole-3-carbinol ] 은 쥐 실험을 통하여 유방암 및 전립선암 의 종양 성장을 억제하는

효력이 입증되었기 때문에 임상 실험도 실시되고 있지만,  이번 연구에서 처음으로 인돌-3-카비놀 성분이 암 종양 세포의 성장을

억제하는 원리가 발표되었다.

이와 같은 연구 결과를 발표한 미국 캘리포니아 대학 분자세포 생물학과의 Gary Firestone 박사 연구팀은

인돌-3-카비놀 성분이 엘라스타아제 ( elastase ) 효소의 작용을 억제한다는 사실을 입증하였는데,

 

 일반적으로 엘라스타아제 수치가 높은 유방암 환자의 경우 생존율도 낮으며, 내분비 호르몬 치료에 대한 반응도도 낮고 또한

항암화학요법의 반응도가 떨어지기 때문에 예후도 좋지 않다고 알려져 있다.

따라서 이번 연구 결과를 활용하여 새로운 화학물질을 합성하면 유방암 및 전립선암 종양을 효과적으로 퇴치할 수 있는

신약 개발에 도움이 될 전망이다.  Firestone 박사는 “인간은 브로콜리, 양배추 등과 같은 십자화과 채소작물과 함께 진화하여 왔기 때문에

이러한 채소에서 발견되는 화학물질은 인간에게 아무런 부작용을 유발하지 않는다.” 라고 주장하였다.

 

인돌-3-카비놀 물질은 식물로부터 얻어지는 화학불질 중의 하나인데 연구팀은 실험실 환경을 통하여 이 물질이 항암 인자로서

잠재성이 있는지 여부를 확인할 예정이다.
